This painting is unique, as it is one of the few painting by J. Schults not showing a still life and flowers but a portrait of women. On the painting, there is a lady reading. The painting reveals she is from a wealthy family, this show in her clothing, her dress of high quality with embroideries and the room she is sitting in, decorated with luxurious furniture and wallpaper. The style of this painting is late Austrian baroque. The frame of this painting is a contemporary gold painted frame.

Painter

Josef Schuster was a famous Austrian 19th Century painter, born in 1812. He was famous for his still lifes and colorful flower paintings. His work has been offered at auctions like Christie’s multiple times. This talented painter visited the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and had famous artists as tutors. Schuster is included in the Netherlands Institute for Art History (RKD), in The Hague, the Netherlands, he is also mentioned in the Benezit Dictionary of Artists in Oxford Art, and, of course, he is included in the Biographic Lexicon of the Empire of Austria of great persons. His work is featured in many museums like the MAK Austrian Museum of Applied Arts, Kunsthistorisches Museum and the Belverdere in Austria.
