Lady in black dress

Oil on canvas, 100 x 80 cm

This is the portrait of a lady dressed in a black cloth and a red flower in her hair. Looking at the style of her clothing, it is probably a lady in the United States of America, inspired by the European fashion of that time. The painting comes without a frame.

Mabel George Haig was born in Blue Earth County Minnesota, the USA on 31 May 1884. She was a pupil of Helena Dunlap, Wm Lees Judson,  Millard Sheets, Anna Hills and Elanor Colburn. She lectured, exhibited, and was active as a teacher of painting and ceramics in Whittier for many years. She died on 27 October 1977.
