Painting Lot A-81039
Cécille Ferrere (1847 – 1931)
Portrait of an elegant women

Oil on Canvas, 45 x 37 cm

Painting

The portrait of the lady in pink and black has a unique appearance. The painting is a good example of the transition from romanticism towards modernism in France, the point where it became realism before it went abstract. The longer one looks at the painting, the harder it gets to determine whether this lady is looking sad or satisfied, a mystery this painting is keeping for itself. The painting is signed in the upper right corner with the name ‘Cécille Ferrere’. The painting has a hand gilded 19th-century frame.
